Whitehaven releases inaugural ‘Samantha’ Cuvée Méthode Traditionnelle
PRESS RELEASE - provided by Whitehaven Wines
In the 1990s Sue and the late Greg White sailed the Pacific Islands with their baby daughter Samantha, ending up in the beautiful waters of the Marlborough Sounds where they were inspired to drop anchor and establish a winery.
Finally, 25 years later – Sue, a lover of bubbles, has added a Cuvée to the Whitehaven range.
Meticulously crafted in exceptionally limited quantities with each bottle individually numbered, this inaugural special release 2018 vintage ‘Samantha’ Cuvée celebrates Greg and Sue’s daughter Samantha, as she continues the legacy that her parents created together.
Using traditional sparkling winemaking techniques combined with Marlborough’s cool climate and plentiful sunshine, the Winemaking team have crafted a Méthode Traditionnelle wine that aligns with Whitehaven’s philosophies of quality, integrity and consistency in style.
This elegant wine is sustainably produced, from 100% Marlborough Chardonnay (70%) and Pinot Noir fruit (30%). This wine has been aged on lees in the bottle for 22 months and was disgorged in Marlborough, in October 2020.
Enjoy crisp, dry, delicate flavours balanced with lees aged derived complexity and savouriness, finishing fine, clean and long.
Future releases of this wine will be non-vintage to allow the Whitehaven winemaking team to carefully blend multiple vintages to create a signature style for Whitehaven, and to produce Marlborough bubbles of uncompromising quality, year after year.
The ‘Samantha’ Cuvée can be purchased from 1 December 2020 from the Whitehaven Cellar Door in Marlborough, or online from www.whitehaven.co.nz
